Primary Passages
Primary passages occupy a large portion of the teaching. They comprise the main point of the teaching and without a primary passage, the teaching could not make it's main point. It is unusual, though not unheard of to have more than one primary passage.
e.g. Philippians 1:1-1:12
Secondary Passages
Secondary passages are more than a mere mention or reference and comprise a sub-point of the teaching. A reference to this passage could be removed without destroying the main point, however a sub-point would be lost in doing so.
