Gary DeLashmutt, lead pastor and elder at Xenos, recently suggested some great reads.
A Passion for God: The Spiritual Journey of A. W. Tozer, by Lyle Dorsett - This is an even-appraisal of Tozer's Christian life and ministry. Dorsett critiques aspects of Tozer's family life, but acknowledges his prophetic impact on the church. Like us, Tozer was "the treasure in an earthen vessel."
Delighting in the Trinity: An Introduction to the Christian Faith, by Michael Reeves & Experiencing the Trinity, by Darell W. Johnson - Both of these theologically orthodox authors are trying to show that the Trinity is not just a philosophical problem to solve, but also at the heart of a vital spiritual life.
The Person & Work of the Holy Spirit, by R. A. Torrey & Secret Power, by D. L. Moody - Torrey & Moody wrote over 100 years ago - before the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements. But they were arguing (biblically & testimonially) for the paramount importance of the Holy Spirit for a vital and effective Christian life.
