2014 Mercy Medical Center

March, 2015

Dear Friends,

Thank you for giving to the ministry of Mercy Medical Center! The ministry continues to mature and thrive. In 2014, we grew from 51 to 60 Cambodian staff - and more importantly - the Outreach Division was the first to become entirely staffed and run by national leaders.

Sokrun, Samrach, Sochea and Sovatdy have been meeting regularly to pray and plan for strategic ministry. They have been asking important questions about ministry effectiveness:

  • How can we excel more in our proclamation of the Kingdom of God?
  • What are our strengths and our weaknesses; what are the obstacles and threats to our ministry?
  • How can we come along side the national church more effectively to facilitate greater growth?
  • How can we invest in our staff to facilitate deepening faith and growth in Christ?

Some house churches were released to be independent this year. Others were released to MMC referring partners’ oversight. New efforts are being made to connect with Cambodian Pastors in their church planting efforts. Several movements which began with one or two patients each, have continued to grow in numbers and strength.

612 people have professed faith in Christ since 2011 at MMC - many more have done so after their visits, in the context of village churches or homes.

In 2014, our Nurse Residency Training Program began, with the first class ready to graduate in April of 2015.  Three new Resident Doctors joined the Family Medicine Residency, for a total of 6, including 2 females. 50% of the staff chose to join a 6 month English course which was offered on site.

With the increase in doctors and nurses, we have been able to care for more patients without compromising in the areas of time, quality and compassion. With over 10,000 outpatient visits, the inpatient ward staff gave 74% more care than the year before.

And most importantly, nearly 90% of the staff are now participating in weekly small discipleship groups.

As a facilitative ministry, we consider this discipleship the most important aspect of the ministry: equipping the national staff to reach their own country for Christ! Thanks for walking with us. And please pray for wisdom; that in all we do, God would be glorified.
