Disciples are Made not Born, W. Hendrichsen
2 Tim 2:2, 2 Chron 16:9
- He has adopted as his objective in life the same objective God sets forth in Scripture. (Mt 6:33 give our lives to the eternal, not temporal)
- He is willing to pay any price to have the will of God fulfilled in his life. (2 Tim 2:3-4 resists the temptations to become ensnared in the world's glittering attractions)
- He has a love for the Word of God. (Jer 15:16 crave it as food and submit to it)
- He has a servant heart. (Mt 20:26-28 a person may try to recruit others to help him accomplish his vision, the disciplemaker however, seeks to invest his life in another to help that person accomplish his own vision)
- He puts no confidence in the flesh (2Cor 1:9. Rom 7:18)
- He does not have an independent spirit (Heb 10:25, 1 Cor 12:12-27 not autonomous, loner)
- He has a love for people (1 Jn 4:10 involved in people's lives)
- He does not allow himself to become trapped in bitterness (Heb 12:15, Col 3:13, Eph 4:32 I will never allow another person to ruin my life by making me hate him)
- He has learned to discipline his life. (1 cor 9:24-27 resisting temptation, learning the Word, applying the Word to every area of life--like an athlete: saying no to distractions)
