School Rules
There are three categories of rules; general, attendance and classroom. The Discipline Options section describes the consequences in more detail. An appropriate consequence is assigned depending on the nature and frequency of the violation.
General Rules
Rules are necessary to provide a safe and orderly environment that is conducive to learning. Therefore, XCS has rules each student must follow in all parts of the school building.
-
Students should walk to and from class
-
No unsafe use of playground equipment
-
Students cannot bring food or medicine into the classroom or on the playground without the teacher's authorization.
-
Students should refrain from bringing toys, radios, magazines or skateboards to school.
Students must treat their teachers, other staff, and their peers with respect. Students must obey all staff members. Respecting their peers includes no menacing or fighting with other students. Also, students should not engage in theft or destruction of the school's property.
Finally possession of drugs, any kind of weapon or other illegal activity is a threat to the safety of the school. In this case every discipline option is available to the Administrator. The normal consequence for the first offense is suspension. Upon the second offense the Administrator may, at his discretion, expel the student.
Attendance Rules
XCS has the following rules to enforce state mandated student attendance:
- If a student is tardy more than five times in any one grading period the parents will receive written notification from the school. XCS, by law, must report to the local truancy official any parent or guardian failing to send their children to school.
Classroom Rules
All classroom rules include respect for person and property. If the student breaks one of the teacher's classroom rules the teacher will choose an appropriate consequence.
