Educational Programs & Support

Educational programs and experiences shall be designed and implemented to provide a general education of high quality for all students. Students shall be provided sufficient time and opportunity to achieve local district performance requirements and objectives measured by required state proficiency tests. Instruction shall include intervention that is designed to meet student needs. Instruction and instructional activities shall be:
(1) Consistent with educational research and proven practices;
Xenos Christian School’s (XCS) programs are consistent with educational research and proven practice. Consistent high performance on national standardized tests and the success of our graduates in local public and private high schools demonstrate the quality of curriculum and instruction.
(2) Appropriate to student ages, developmental needs, learning styles, abilities, and English proficiency.
XCS educational programs are appropriate to the students age. All curriculum materials are introduced at the appropriate developmental stage. Our learning environment supports the developmental needs of students by allowing various techniques for learning.
Children’s development involves many aspects: cognitive, physical, emotional and spiritual. Our approach to education allows students to experience various techniques for learning. In addition, tutors and classroom aides are available to address developmental needs outside the classroom.
(3) Designed to ease the transition of students from one educational environment to another.
XCS prepares students to transition successfully from one educational environment to another. Academic progress is monitored through using ongoing classroom evaluations, standardized testing, and academic content standard performance measurements.
XCS students are prepared to transition to the next grade by successfully mastering the academic content standards for their current grade. This information is passed on to the subsequent year’s teacher.
XCS students continue to be successful as they transition into local public and private high schools.
(4) In accordance with division (M) of section 3301.07 of the Revised Code and rule 3301-33-01 of the Administrative Code, phonics shall be used as a technique to teach reading in kindergarten through third grade.
XCS utilizes a systematic phonics approach for reading acquisition in kindergarten through third grade.
Each building shall be open for instruction with students in attendance in accordance with section 3313.48 of the Revised Code; the board of education may operate its schools under an alternate schedule if it complies with section 3313.481 of the Revised Code. The school calendar may be modified to make up days in accordance with the district's contingency plan pursuant to section 3313.482 of the Revised Code.
XCS has a 182 day school calendar which includes 2 teacher in-service days, 2 parent/teacher conference days and the state allowed calamity days, as needed. The School Board approves the calendar for the next school year at the May meeting.
Students in kindergarten shall be offered at least two and one-half hours per day of classes, supervised activities or approved educational options, excluding the lunch period. Districts that receive Disadvantaged Pupil Impact Aid funds for all-day kindergarten shall offer five hours per day, excluding the lunch period.
Xenos Christian School offers morning and afternoon Kindergarten. Class duration is two hours and forty-five minutes Monday through Friday. Xenos Class Schedule

The school day for students in grades one through six shall include scheduled classes, supervised activities or approved educational options for at least five hours, excluding the lunch period. Instruction shall be provided in those curricular areas identified in sections 3301.07, 3313.60, and 3313.602 of the Revised Code that are appropriate for the student’s age and ability level, and that reflect the mission and strategic plan of the district and school.
Calumet Christian School is in session Monday-Friday from 8:30 to 3:15 with a 50 minute lunch/recess included for students in grades one through six. The school day for students in grades seven and eight shall consist of scheduled classes, supervised activities (excluding interscholastic athletics), or approved educational options for at least five and one-half hours, excluding the lunch period. Instruction shall be provided in curricular areas identified in sections 3301.07, 3313.60 and 3313.602 of the Revised Code that are appropriate for the student’s age and ability level, and that reflect the mission and strategic plan of the district and school.

The school day for students in grades nine through twelve shall consist of scheduled classes, supervised activities (excluding interscholastic athletics), or approved educational options for at least five and one-half hours excluding the lunch period. Instruction shall be provided in those curricular areas identified in sections 3301.07, 3313.60, 3313.602, and 3313.90 of the Revised Code that are appropriate for the student’s age and ability level, that meet the graduation requirements specified in section 3313.603 of the Revised Code, and that reflect the mission and strategic plan of the district and school.
Not Applicable to Xenos Christian Schools
When made available, educational options shall require:
(1) An instructional plan that is based on individual needs and shall include:
(a) Instructional objectives that align with the local district's curriculum requirements;
(b) An outline that specifies instructional activities, materials and learning environments;
(c) A description of the criteria and methods for assessing student performance.
(2) Parental permission for students under age 18;
(3) Superintendent approval prior to student participation;
(4) Involvement of a credentialed teacher in reviewing the instructional plan, providing or supervising instruction, and evaluating student performance;
(5) Credit for approved education options shall be assigned according to student performance relative to stated objectives of the education option and in accordance with local board policy and established procedures.
Not Applicable to Xenos Christian Schools
Innovations and waivers - Any district or chartered nonpublic school may ask that an innovative pilot program be exempted from specific laws or rules pursuant to section 3302.07 of the Revised Code and rule 3301-46-01 of the Administrative Code.
Xenos Christian Schools does not currently operate pilot programs outside of 3302.07 of the Revised Code and 3301-47-01 of the Administrative Code.
Educational support services
(1) Student support services should be designed to support student progress toward meeting educational performance objectives contained in Ohio law, all applicable federal laws and locally developed course objectives. Student support services may include screening, assessment, intervention, monitoring of student progress, counseling, consultation, and access to library media and information technology programs designed to support student achievement. Instructional materials, including library media materials, technology, and other student support services shall:
(a) Support the district’s mission, educational goals, and strategic plan;
(b) Support the objectives specified in the course of study and the learning needs of students;
(c) Be current; and
(d) Be selected according to adopted policies and with the involvement of credentialed staff.
Provision for educational support services is limited at XCS due to size, resources and staff. However, we do offer the services of a remedial and enrichment tutor in each of our buildings to supplement classroom instruction. In addition, a school psychologist is available for student assessment. The support services we offer are designed to enhance student learning and help them progress in meeting their learning objectives. If the administration determines that the services provided are not meeting the students need, the staff is committed to working with the family to determine the best education alternative.
(2) Operational support services should be designed to create an educational environment conducive to effective teaching and learning. Examples of such services include:
(a) Administrative staff, including principals as provided in paragraph (A)(5) of rule 3301-35-05 of this Chapter;
Calumet Christian School, Harambee Christian School and Xenos Christian School are each led by a full-time principal who is responsible for the safety of the students and staff at each respective school.
(b) Management of buildings and grounds to accommodate student enrollment, and to meet faculty and staff work space and private conference space needs as appropriate;
Calumet Christian School, Harambee Christian School and Xenos Christian School retain the services of a full-time maintenance staff. Annual health, fire and asbestos inspections are conducted as required. The results of these inspections are available in each school office.
(c) Services that identify student health and safety concerns and opportunities for access to appropriate related resources. These services shall be consistent with the Revised Code and determined by the local board of education and district in collaboration with stakeholders, and shall include:
(i) Compliance with immunization requirements of section 3313.67 of the Revised Code;
(ii) Compliance with emergency medical authorization requirements of section 3313.712 of the Revised Code;
(iii) Vision and hearing screenings, referrals and follow up;
XCS retains the services of a school nurse
(iv) Emergency preparedness, including fire drills, rapid dismissal, and tornado drills in accordance with section 3737.73 of the Revised Code;
Records of fire and tornado drills are available in each school office.
(v) The posting of emergency procedures and telephone numbers in classrooms for use by parents, students, and school personnel;
Emergency evacuation procedures and exit routes are posted in each room.
(vi) A safety plan, for each district building, which complies with section 3313.536 of the Revised Code; and
Each building has a safety plan in place.
(vii) A local policy governing administration of medicines in accordance with section 3313.713 of the Revised Code.
Medications are stored in a locked cabinet and administered per standard health department protocol.
(d) Student attendance strategies in accordance with section 3321.04 of the Revised Code.

(e) A comprehensive student conduct code that is in accordance with sections 3313.66, 3313.661, and 3313.62 of the Revised Code.

Stakeholder partnerships
(1) The district or school through its board of education, superintendent, and staff shall work with key stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the following:
(a) Parents, in part through the adoption of a policy on parental involvement in the schools, as provided by section 3313.472 of the Revised Code.
(b) Business advisory councils, as provided by section 3313.174 of the Revised Code.
(c) School-parent or school-business partnerships as referenced in section 3301.131 of the Revised Code; and
(d) Other schools, social services, and organizations that impact educational programs for students.
XCS maintains a good working relationship between students, teachers, administrators, parents and community resources and provides for this through many different means.
(2) In addition to its regular budget process, the school district shall work with key stakeholders to review the district’s allocation of educational resources. This evaluation shall be conducted at least once every three years to ensure that the district’s resources are allocated in an effective and equitable manner.
XCS encourages input from stakeholders concerning its educational programs. XCS Christian Schools is a ministry of Xenos Christian Fellowship and works closely with the Student ministries director and board of elders to establish the tactical and financial plan.
The XCS School Board reviews the proposed teacher salaries and other operating expenses at the July Board meeting.
