
1170 The School Board
1171 Purpose
The School Board shall be the policy-making body of the school.
1172 Membership

The Board of Trustees of Xenos Christian Fellowship, Inc. (the Xenos Board) will select between six to ten initial Xenos Christian Schools (formerly Calumet Christian School) Board Members. The Student Ministries Coordinator of Xenos Christian Fellowship shall be a School Board Member. Thereafter, School Board Members may select two to four additional members annually from names provided by the Board of Xenos until membership reaches a maximum of 16 members.

No teacher, administrator, or staff member employed by the school or member of their immediate family (i.e., husband, wife, son, daughter, mother, or father) shall be eligible to serve on the School Board.
1173 Term of Service

School Board member's term of service shall be two years with a mandatory year layoff after each term. The Student Ministries Coordinator's term of service shall be unlimited. For the purpose of the initial School Board, one-half of the members will have a one year term.
1174 Duties of School Board members

To establish and revise Xenos Christian Schools' policies.

To submit an annual school budget first to the Student Ministries Division Coordinator, then to the Xenos Board for approval.

To select, supervise, review, and, if necessary, terminate the school superintendent.

To attend all meetings of the Board.

To pray for the school.
1175 Duties of the School Board or its representative.

To approve the annual school budget.

To approve non-budgetary expenditures.

To approve policies.

To approve curriculum.

To arbitrate unresolved grievances involving school staff.

To approve the dismissal of certificated personnel.

To hold appeal hearings requested in the case of student expulsion or employee dismissal.
1176 Board Meetings

The School Board will meet at least annually. School Board meetings will not be open to the public unless approved by a 2/3 majority vote of the whole authorized School Board.
The following are the regularly scheduled board meetings and probable agenda items.

Meetings will be conducted as needed.

Special meetings of the School Board may be called by the Chairman or by the Vice Chairman in the absence of the Chairman. Notice of any special meeting shall be given at least (2) days previously thereto by written notice delivered personally or by mail to each School Board Member.

Two-thirds of the whole authorized number of School Board Members is necessary to constitute a quorum for a meeting of the School Board. All School Board decisions will be approved by a 2/3 majority vote of the quorum.

Any member of the School Board may be removed, at any time, by 2/3 majority of the whole authorized School Board or by a majority vote of the Xenos Board.

The Xenos Board of Trustees may at any time dissolve the Xenos Christian School Board.

No School Board Member will receive compensation for serving on the School Board.

The School Board shall not enter into contracts exceeding 18 months with any individual or institution unless that contract has been previously authorized by the Xenos Board. Furthermore, any commitments, apart from teacher contracts, that exceed $5,000 shall also require previous authorization from the Xenos Board.

Reporting Structure The School Board shall operate subject to the Xenos Board through their liaison, the Xenos Student Ministries Division Coordinator. Minutes of School Board meetings will be submitted to the Student Ministries Coordinator. Communications with the Xenos Board will be channeled through the Student Ministries Coordinator.
1177 School Board Officers

Officers: The officers for the School shall be a School Board Chairman, School Administrator, a Secretary, and such other officers as may be elected by the School Board. The Chairman will appoint a Vice Chairman to serve in the absence of the Chairman. Officers whose authority and duties are not prescribed in these By-Laws shall have the authority and perform the duties prescribed, from time to time, by the School Board.

Election and Terms of Office: The Chairman shall be appointed by the Xenos Board. The other officers of the school board shall be elected by a 2/3 majority vote of the School Board no later than four months before the office will be vacated. Each officer shall hold office until either his or her successor is duly elected and qualified or his earlier resignation, removal from office, or death.

Removal: Any officer may be removed by either a 2/3 majority of the whole authorized School Board or by a majority vote of the Xenos Board.

School Board Chairman: The School Board Chairman will be responsible for all formal communications of the School Board to the Administrator, and to the Xenos Board. The Chairman will determine the order of business for the meetings of the School Board. The Chairman will call emergency meetings when necessary.

Administrator: The administrator shall be the principle administrative officer of the school. He or she shall have the general oversight of all school departments and staff. The administrator will not be a School Board member. The administrator will conduct the affairs of the school in accordance with the doctrinal position, plans, and methods as may be approved by the School Board.

Secretary: The Secretary shall record the minutes of the meetings of the School Board in one or more books provided for that purpose; see that all notices are duly given in accordance with the provisions of these By-Laws or as required by law; be custodian of the Xenos Christian Schools Board minutes; and perform all duties incident to the office of Secretary and such other duties as from time to time may be assigned to him or her by the School Board. The Secretary shall provide minutes of every School Board Meeting to the Student Ministries Coordinator. The Secretary shall be a member of the School Board.

Resignation: Any officer may resign at any time by written notice to the Secretary of the School Board. The acceptance of a resignation shall not be necessary to make it effective, unless otherwise specified in the notice of resignation. Any such resignation shall be without prejudice to the contract rights, if any, of the church. Election or appointment of an officer shall not of itself create contract rights.

Vacancies: When the office of Chairman becomes vacant the Xenos Board will select a new Chairman. A vacancy in any other office because of death, resignation, removal, disqualification or otherwise may be filled by the School Board by selecting from among current School Board Members. The new officer shall begin a term that will last for the remainder of their current term of service, unless School Board membership is not a condition of the office.

All property is owned by Xenos Christian Fellowship.

All property is dedicated for use for educational and spiritual purposes.
