Appealing Disciplinary Action

XCS upholds a student's due process of law. A parent may appeal a discipline action by deferment of penalty or by a request for a rule revision.

Deferment of Penalty

When a violation of one of the rules occurs, a parent may ask the Administrator for a deferment of the penalty only if the child's guilt is in question. Disagreement with the rule or current penalty is not a valid reason for deferment.

If a parent has a question about the child's guilt, the parent must:

  • Contact the Administrator or the child's teacher immediately following notification of the penalty, and request a deferment
  • Attend a conference with the Administrator and the teacher in question within five school days of the request for deferment

If the parent still questions the discipline act the parents of the child can request a hearing before the School Board at its next regular meeting. A request for a hearing must be provided in writing no more than ten (10) days after the student was disciplined. The School Board's decision after the hearing is final.

Request for Rule Revision

A parent or guardian may request a rule or penalty change. All requests for a revision must be in writing and sent to the attention of the Administrator.
