Real Life Work-Ministry Option
Now for non-student singles who want to learn to use their gifting and maximize their ministry ability, Real Life offers the Work-Ministry option.

Overview

Singles accepted into this program have the opportunity to take Real Life curriculum while living in a Xenos ministry house and participating in urban house church planting ministry. Participants work at part or full-time jobs while undergoing standard Real Life training. Unlike other Real Life participants, the Work-Ministry singles do not attend college while in the program. They may already be college graduates, or may later enroll in college.

Like the regular Real Life program, the Work-Ministry option features two tracks:

    1. The standard approach is the Urban House Church Planting program. Singles in this track take a series of Bible and theology courses while attending a singles house church, male or female discipleship group, and living in a Xenos ministry house with other Christians. Participants will learn how to share their faith, lead small group studies, practice personal discipleship, and plan strategically for house church ministry.
    2. After at least one year in the standard program, participants can specialize in Inner City Community Development, working with Xenos’ award-winning inner-city ministry, Urban Concern. Participants in this track will live in an inner-city ministry house and word with inner city youth in after school programs, Bible studies, low-income housing projects, job training, or other programs.

Why Choose Work-Ministry?

The most common reasons for choosing the Work-Ministry option are:

    1. Students who plan to attend regular Real Life use the Work-Ministry program to establish Ohio residency. The result is radically lower tuition costs at Ohio State University. The savings over out of state tuition can be in the tens of thousands. Meanwhile, they get a head start on their Bible course work.
    2. Students may choose the Work-Ministry option when they have already graduated from college, but want to take advantage of some practical ministry training before taking on a secular career. The Work-Ministry program can be a valuable way to assess whether to go on to formal seminary training or to work for the Lord as a lay person.
    3. Seminary graduates or students in seminary may choose to take a hiatus from their training while experiencing real cutting edge ministry under Xenos leadership. Young pastors may join this program as preparation for planting their own churches elsewhere.
    4. Missionary candidates may use this training to qualify for the mission field and hone skills they will need on the field or to assess whether to go to the foreign field.

At present, practical ministry training in church planting, inner-city ministry or international, cross-cultural outreach is difficult to find apart from actual career commitments. The Real Life Work-Ministry program is an excellent way to stop, learn, and assess your life direction in counting for Christ.
