Oasis Frequently Asked Questions

How do you screen your volunteers?
See the section titled "Security Screenings" in our staff handbook.

How do you recruit your volunteers?
Foremost, we pray that God will send us people committed to teaching children about Christ's love (Matt. 9:37, 38; James 4:2b). The elders also provide support and encouragement.

Through the Home Group Adopt-a-Class program, home groups adopt a classroom for one program year. The home group is responsible for scheduleing and staffing the room each week. All materials, support and training are provided by Oasis.

Oasis provides volunteers with a clear expectation of responsibilities and time commitment.

Student assistants are also recruited from committed Junior High and High School students. See our Student Assistant Application, Contract and Recommendation for more information.

Finally, our supportive oversight results in at least a 50 percent return each year.

What are your security policies?
See the section titled "Classroom Security Policies" in our staff handbook.

What is your average attendance each week?
As of the last quarter of 2004, we average 850 students.

What do you use for curriculum?
We write our own. View samples our curriculum.

How do you train your volunteers?
Oasis provides orientation before beginning in the classroom. Fall and Spring workshops include speakers relevant to the current needs of volunteers.

How is your program organized?
See our organization chart.

How many paid staff positions?
Oasis has two full-time and four part-time positions.

How many volunteers do you have?
195 volunteers staff our 65 classrooms each week at our CTs. An additional 250 volunteers make up our director, drama, craft, music, missions and curriculum support teams. Some of these folks help prepare, distribute and reshelve the crafts and lesson supplies during the week. Others participate in the drama and puppet skits, music and missions lessons.
