Kathy Steinman

Director of Oasis

My love for children began when I was a child and has continued through the years. When I began a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, my love for children combined with the desire for them to know, love and walk with him. I began serving in the Xenos children’s ministry in 1985, and have served as Oasis director since July 1992.

Looking Back
I spent much of my life seeking significance and approval through volunteering and working hard for the approval of others. I was depressed and self-absorbed most of the time. Even with two beautiful children, a wonderful husband and all the material blessings I could imagine, my life continued to be empty and lonely.

I began attending a Bible study with a group of women, and gradually learned what the Bible said about God’s amazing love. At 33, God’s spirit finally broke through and opened my heart and mind to his love and grace. I asked God to take over my life, even though I didn’t understand Christ’s work on the cross or what it would mean for God to be in control.

In 1981, through Bible teaching and Christian community at Xenos, I finally understood Christ’s work on the cross and that God had a plan for my life. My husband accepted Christ’s forgiveness in September 1982, and our marriage began to flourish. Our children, at ages seven and 11, opened their hearts to Christ and our family was unified for the first time. We also are blessed with a son-in-law, daughter-in-law and six beautiful granddaughters.

We’ve experienced many trials over the last 27 years. Through the pain, God has always remained faithful and continues to reveal more of his power, sovereignty, grace and mercy.
