Nearly a quarter century has passed since the 1974 Lausanne gathering at which Dr. Ralph Winter graphically portrayed the spiritual darkness that grips more than half the world's population. Ongoing study and consultations during the years since then have only strengthened the conviction that these “unreached people groups” desperately need a demonstration of the love and truth of the Gospel of Christ. So why are churches still struggling to recruit, train, send and care effectively for missionaries?

Mobilization is the key. We need to learn to “mine for mobilizers” within our churches. Effective mobilizers will be those who are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and overflowing with God's love for the lost, both locally and around the world. Where do we find such mobilizers? How will we recognize them? How can we cultivate within them the passion and skills to mobilize others for mission involvement? Three conditions are essential for developing effective mission mobilizers:
