Page 3—Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions you may already have.

How long will this take?
Because every person considering missionary service is unique and starts at a different point, it would be impossible to prescribe a set amount of time. It could take several months or many years, or you may discover it is God's will for you to stay here.

Who will help me?
Everyone should have someone who is deeply interested in his/her spiritual welfare. We encourage everyone to be involved in a Home Group, and in a discipling relationship in the Home Group. As you move toward the final phases of preparation, the missions department will assign a mentor to help you.

Am I doing this all by myself?
There are others who are investigating missions. Several times a year we will all get together to participate in missions training experiences such as:

  • Hearing from a missionary on home assignment
  • Team building activities
  • Interpersonal Skills workshop

Will I have to do difficult things?
Probably. Living overseas is typically more difficult than living in Columbus. Growth is like climbing, the easiest steps are at the beginning. You will not be asked to do things for which you are not prepared or trained. But you will experience some challenging tasks and responsibilities which will help prepare you for living abroad.

What if I change my mind and decide not to go?
You are free to change your mind at any point! The training you have received will help you to me a missions-active member of Xenos.

How do I get started?
Just call or e-mail the missions mobilization department at Xenos or call Holly McCallum at 823-6510 x151.
