Mark 7

Goal: Persuade them to internalize their faith
B.
Objectives
1.
Explain the specific historical situation that Mark spells out
in verses 1-13.
2.
Create disdain for hypocrisy and "just going through the motions"
3.
Show what it looks like:
a)
For a middle schooler to just be going through the motions(they come to meetings, might even give money to missions,
but their heart is far from God.)
b)
Show what it looks like for a middle schooler to be on fire for
God.
III.
"I'm the Boss" Mark
10:32-45
A.
Goal: Persuade them to lead others through a serving lifestyle
B.
Objectives
1.
Explain the passage, the specific historical situation that Mark
writes about.
2.
Create disdain for selfishness, selfish type people.
a)
Spend lots of time on this.
b)
Really work hard at showing students how pitiful it is to be selfish.
3.
Show what it would look like for a middle schooler to be a true
servant.
4.
Show the benefits of serving.

Jesus Picks a Fight Mark 11
A.
Goal: Persuade them to gain a passion for righteousness.
B.
Objectives
1.
Explain the passage, the specific historical situation that Mark
writes about
a)
Explain why Christ turned over the tables
b)
Explain, "it is written, My house
shall…."
c)
Show Pharisees corruption
2.
Show that it's ok to have righteous anger
a)
Connect righteous anger with having a passion for righteousness
3.
Create disdain for those who don't get that passion for righteousness
a)
Show what it would look like for students to be passive and apathetic
and how bad this really is.
4.
Show what it would look like for a middle schooler to have a passion
for righteousness.

Persuade them to get passion for righteousness
V.
Peter Loses It Mark
14:22-72
A.
Goal: Convict them as to how gracious and forgiving God has been
with them
B.
Objectives
1.
Explain the passage
a)
Peter's boast in verse 29
b)
Peter's denials in verses 66-72
c)
Show how bad this really was (Peter, denying his best friend and
God incarnate)
d)
Christ's forgiveness and commissioning of Peter in John 21:15-17

Show how they are equally as sinful as Peter.
a)
Really try to convince them here--especially given the fact that
they don't see themselves as that bad. Most middle schooler basically
feel they deserve to be forgiven.
3.
Explain how Christ has chosen to forgive them in spite of their
sins.
4.
Challenge them to be thankful for the forgiveness they don't deserve.
VI.
The Best Murder in History Mark 15
A.
Goal: Persuade them of God's superior wisdom.
B.
Objectives
1.
Explain in human terms why Jesus was put on the cross
a)
Jesus didn't mince words about the Pharisees corruption
b)
Pharisees power base was threatened.
c)
They basically arranged for Christ's death on the cross.
2.
Explain the gruesome death by cross (the physical agony, the emotion
pain, etc)
3.
Show how Satan was reveling in it, how Satan thought this was his
victory.
a)
Tell about the fall in Gen 3, how Satan deceived the humans and
gained control
b)
Show how God predicted Satan's defeat--Gen 3:15
c)
Show how Satan probably dreamed of this day, the day where he would
outwit God and finally win.
d)
Show how Satan was probably screaming with laughter and the taste
of victory
4.
Show how God used this most tragic and vile events to actually
defeat death, Satan, and redeem humanity.
a)
Show God's wisdom, how he used Satan's hatred to actually defeat
Satan.
5.
Show the great results--everything Satan didn't want
a)
Now, we get reconciled to God
b)
Now we get a loving relationship with our eternal father
c)
Now we get eternal life with God.
d)
Now, we have a new, loving leader--Christ
6.
Challenge them to trust in the all wise loving God, rather than
trusting in themselves.
