2 Timothy

I.              Fanning the Flame of Your Faith: 2 Timothy 1   

A.       Intro: Paul and Timothy's relationship

B.        Fan the flame of your faith (get on fire for God!)  (1.6)

1.         Don't be ashamed of your faith  (1:8)  Be willing to suffer shame for his name (1:12)

2.         Focus on getting into the Bible (1:13-14)

II.           Being  a Soldier   2 Timothy 2                Intro: Describe spiritual warfare. 

A.       Describe how to battle

1.         Strong in grace.  (Satan likes to knock us off the platform of grace)  (2:1)

2.         Teach yourself and others  the Bible(this is offensive warfare) (2:2)

3.         Be prepared to suffer (2:3-10)

a)         Be moral in an immoral culture
b)         Don't be lazy and apathetic, be a hard worker
c)         Remember the goal: ensure freedom for others.  Just like Americans did for us in WWII.  We do this spiritually when we bring people to Christ.

III.        Understanding the End Times 2 Timothy 3               

Intro: According to Bible, history is linear, not cyclical.  There will be an end to the world.

A.       A change in human nature (3:1-5)

B.        Application (3:10-15)

1.         Follow Paul's teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love,  perseverance (vs 10-12)

2.         Get into the Bible (vs 14-15)

C.       Results of using the Bible as you minister to others: (3:17)

1.         People get transformed

IV.         Fulfilling Your God Given Role          2 Timothy 4               

Intro: Discuss how God grants each believer a role/gifting to be used and exercised

A.       For Timothy  (vs 1-4)

1.         His role = Preaching the Bible and applying it to the  folks in his church

B.        For Paul (vs 6-7)

1.         His role = Suffering.  He would suffer as he started up different churches throughout the Roman Empire

C.       Paul's reward and our reward (vs 4:8)

D.       What is our role or gift, and are we exercising it?

1.         Or, are we like Demas who loved this present world….?

2.         Or, are we going to be like Paul… who loved the future, eternal world?
