SUMMER CAMP 2010

Mission Trips
Getting a glimpse at God's heart can change a life forever. So it is with a junior higher that experiences God's power as he shares the love of God with others on a short term missions trip. This summer God gave us the privilege to run a one week Soccer Camp in Blair Township in Northern Michigan with North Shore Outdoor Ministries.
God has used this trip in the past to teach us many things about ministry — perseverance through disappointment, flexibility, puting our faith into obedient action resulting in seeing God work in amazing ways.
The North Shore website has photos of the trip. Check them out by clicking here!
Are you a seventh grader who wants to go on the missions trip this year? Pick up an application at JAM or Blow Out or download it here:

Winter Retreats
Each Winter, Cell groups plan, and put on a Winter Retreat. Often two or three cells work together and have a combined Winter Retreat. The Cell Leaders will work up the teachings, pick a location, collect money, buy the food, spend the weekend with the students—do it all. The biggest benefit to the smaller groups (instead of having 330 students invade a State Park) is that everything, from the teachings, to the activities, to the food can be targeted to your group.

Need help planning your cell group's winter retreat? Check out the 'volunteers' link at the left where we have tons of resources and helpful tips for planning an awesome winter retreat!

Activities and Community Service
Making friends and having fun together rocks! Late night "Commando Team Tag" is popular among the boys' cell groups. Sometimes they reserve the Calumet School gym and  play  basketball or Killer Dodge Ball. Occasionally, the boys will have video game competitions on the big screen or  create their own "basement video."  The sky is the limit. It's fun to see their creativity. The girls often hit the road and play "Big Better Best" or "Dine Out." Other popular activities with the girls are roller skating, putt-putt, or just going out to a movie.
In addition to becoming great friends and having fun, we want our students to see needs beyond themselves—see the world from God's point of view. Cleaning neighborhood parks, ringing the bell for The Salvation Army, serving the elderly at nursing homes, giving food to the Food Bank, or even working at the Mid Ohio Food Bank, the students can learn what Jesus was talking about when he spoke about serving, "And if you know these things, blessed are you if you do them." John 13:17. ©NIV
Learning to serve people, because God served us can be an abstract concept, but when the students can serve in obedience to God and find that God will empower them to do great things, God will become real in their lives and they will hunger for the things of God.
