Summer Camp
The highlight of the year comes every August! There's nothing like it.
A chance to be with your friends for several days, be in the heart of
nature, goof off, and learn about God. We run three camps,
one for each of the three grades in middle school. sixth grader enjoyed
a three day camp, seventh graders had a four day camp while eighth graders
benefited are going to have a new adventure camp. In addition to nightly Bible teachings
the camp features a variety of day and evening programs, all promoting
fun, new experiences and team building skills.
Day programs include:
Arts
& Crafts...Making Tie Dye tee shirts and Duct tape wallets have been
a big hit.
Sports
and Recreation...Frisbee golf, kickball, and tag usually
work.
Outdoor
adventure...High ropes course with zip
lines, climbing wall, and archery are all popular
Swimming...It's
fun when you can get creative ideas like, "who can pick up the greased
watermelon at the bottom."
Evening Programs include:
Team
Night...This crucial night, the first night of camp, is when we break
down into our teams for the upcoming school year. Each team competes for
the most original and funny team name, banner, song, etc.
Counselor Most Wanted night...who can find the counselors? Eight to ten counselors hide while students spend a half hour scouring camp for them. Each is represented by various point totals that will help your team win camp.
Chill
With Your Cabin Night...This is a much needed mid week chill down event.
It's a good time to slow down and hang with your cabin mates. Night hikes,
bon fires, cards, board games are all popular.
Bon
Fire Awards Night...The last night and the most sentimental, we gather
around a bon fire, listen to a heart felt Bible teaching, give out a few
awards to a handful of campers, and hang out with each other. We usually
end the night with a commissioning of the new 8th graders. Upon
retiring to our cabins, each camper is awarded a certificate from their
counselor for displaying a unique characteristic. Some of these wind up
being emotionally moving while others are simply humorous.Campers also
pay their counselors with a tribute.
Getting into the Word: Teachings
and Squad Group
Teachings:
Here's where Camp really makes the difference in students lives.
The impact of these teachings makes all the other work of putting camp
together worth it. At camp, we seem to get a lot more mileage out
of our bible teachings than on normal meeting nights. Maybe its because
they are away from town in the great outdoors, maybe it's because camp
regularly fills them with the things of God. For whatever reasons,
summer camp is no time to go light on getting into the bible! The
students gobble it up.
Each year we pick a theme for our nightly bible teachings. Some
of our more recent themes were "Making an Impact," "Ephesians
Rocks," "Jesus, the Great I Am," and "Discovering
God's Will For Your Life." Typically, an adult will teach for 30
minutes bookend between two other student teachings or testimonies.
It's really something seeing students teaching the bible and challenging
their fellow students.
Squad
Group:
Every morning after breakfast, each camper has a chance to get
alone with the Lord to pray, read the scripture to be taught that night,
and answer some questions provided on their Squad notebook. Not every
student takes this time seriously, but for those who do, it really makes
a difference.
Other Great Things At Camp:
In addition, there are all kinds of fun competitive events such
as a nightly memory verse contests and our
daily challenges. The summer camp is regularly attended by most of our
students and staff. The relationships built this week give memories that
last a life time. Take a look at some pictures
from a few years ago.
Fundraiser:
We will have a fundraiser for students who need help paying for camp We will have more information about this in the upcoming weeks.
