In a notebook course like this, the lectures are based on a series of outlines and papers. To help the students attend and perceive, we give them blank versions of the papers with key material left out. They have to fill the missing parts out in class (or they can do it at home if they perfer, but it takes longer that way). To complete the course successfully, they will need not only the finished papers, but their hand-written student versions in their notebooks. We tell the students they will receive the full text versions, but that these are to hel them focus attention.
