Student Attendance
Teachers report daily attendance to the school office before 10:00a.m. Xenos Christian Schools have a legal responsibility to insure each student attends school daily and to assure safe arrival for bus and walking students. Attendance records also safeguard against the spread of communicable diseases.
Excused Absences
A student can make up homework and tests missed during an excused absence. Those missed during an unexcused absence may not. Xenos Christian Schools, by law, must report excessive unexcused absences to the appropriate public school district. The following is a list of excused absences.
-
Personal illness
-
Medical or dental appointments
-
Family illness requiring student's help at home
-
Death or funeral of a relative or close friend
-
Emergency requiring student's presence at home
-
Family travels or vacation with prior approval from the principal.
Notification from home
Parents should call the school office to confirm their child is absent by 9:30A.M.
When the student returns to school, they must bring a written note from a parent to the classroom teacher stating the reason for the absence. These notes should identify the illness by name. The office verifies excused absences. The office is also responsible for taking the proper precautions for communicable diseases.
An absence is unexcused if the student fails to bring a written note from home within two days after returning to school. The student will receive a grade of zero for all worked missed during the absence.
When a student is required to represent Xenos Christian Schools in an approved school activity, the student is not considered absent.
School closing due to weather or other emergency is not recorded as an absence.
Parents must inform the principal of special situations affecting school attendance.
At the end the nine weeks and at the end of the year, parents receive notification of the total number of days absent and tardy for the grading period.
Tardy Arrivals
All students arriving after 8:30 for CCS and after 9:00 a.m. for XCS/HCS will be marked tardy and must report to the office with a parent or guardian for an admission slip before going to the classroom. Office personnel will notify a parent of students arriving after 8:30 for CCS and after 9:00 a.m. XCS/HCS without a parent or guardian.
The principal may request a parent conference when the number of days tardy becomes excessive.
A student arriving before 11:00 a.m. and staying the remainder of the day receives credit for a full day's attendance. A student arriving after 11:00 a.m. will receive l/2 day attendance.
A student leaving school after 1:00 p.m. will receive credit for a full day's attendance. Students leaving between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. will receive half a day attendance.
Make-up Work
Teachers will provide students with makeup opportunity for work missed during an excused absence. The responsibility for completing makeup work rests with the student and parent. After a return from an absence, the student has 5 days to complete makeup work.
