XCS believe that human beings are created in the image of God. As such, we are unique among all of God’s creation. Humanity, although fallen, maintains the image of God and is, therefore, still dignified and unique. God continues to love us and reach out to us, even though we are hostile to Him. Believers in Jesus Christ receive a new nature that becomes the foundation for a process of transformation. (John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 5:17)
(2) Assess the needs of students and other stakeholders and use assessment results to make informed decisions about curriculum, instruction, assessment, and goals.
XCS maintains a cumulative file for each student that includes: annual standardized test scores scores, writing assessments, Academic Content Standard (ACS) assessments, ability test results, and quarterly progress reports.
XCS conducts standardized testing annually for all students, Kindergarten through eighth grade, to assess academic performance and to evaluate the effectiveness of the school's curriculum. XCS administers the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OL-SAT) for second, fourth, sixth and eighth grade students to provide teachers, parents and administrative staff a cognitive measurement of each child.
In addition to standardized testing, pupil performance by grade level is done in the form of Academic Content Standards (ACS) assessments. All assessment results are used with other criteria in evaluation of a child’s learning strengths and weaknesses, aid in grade placement decisions, disability issues, conference topics, teacher-pupil learning style discussions, and recommendations for additional testing.
Conferences take place between parent and teacher and may, if appropriate, include the student. In addition, XCS retains the services of a school psychologist if further assessment of a student is needed.
