3420 Leaves of Absence
3421 Sick Leave
3421.1
Every full-time employee is allowed 6 days of annual leave with pay during the school year from July to July.
3421.2
Sick leave may only be used for illness or as approved by the administrator.
3421.3
Unused sick days are reimbursed to the individual teacher at the current substitute pay rate at the end of each school year
3422 Extended Illness
3422.1
Employees suffering a major illness that requires more absences than covered by sick leave must request an extended-illness leave.
3422.2
Pay during extended illness leaves must be approved by the Board or its representative.
3423 Parental Leaves
3423.1
The Xenos Christian Schools believe that children are a blessing and responsibility from God for both mothers and fathers. Therefore, XCS offers a paid and unpaid parental leave to either parent.
3423.2
An employee may use sick days to receive pay for days during delivery and recovery or to prepare for the arrival of an adopted child and to provide care after placement in the home.
3423.3
XCS believes that the early years of a child's life are particularly important (Proverbs 22:60); therefore, XCS requires that an employee who wishes to return to work more than twenty hours per week before his/her child is three years of age demonstrate that either the other spouse is providing child care at home or that he or she is a single parent (e.g. widow). Special circumstances may be considered by the Board or its representative as recommended by the superintendent.
3423.4
Employees needing to or choosing to remain at home for a period longer than covered by sick days must apply for unpaid parental leave. An employee wishing to resign should give notification of resignation when applying for the unpaid parental leave for the rest of the year.
3423.5
The duration of the parental leave cannot extend into the next school year.
3423.6
An employee may file a request to return to work before the parental leave is over.
3423.7
Employees planning to return to work the next school year must notify the superintendent by March. Failure to notify the Administrator may be considered an automatic resignation.
3424 Bereavement
3424.1
Full-time employees are allowed up to three days with pay in the case of the death of an immediate family member.
3424.2
Immediate family member is defined as a parent, grandparent, guardian, brother, sister, son, son-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law, or any other relative living in the immediate household of the employee.
3425 Jury Duty
3425.1
If summoned for jury duty, full-time employees may request one or more days off with pay.
3425.2
The leave will be granted without deduction from sick leave or pay.
3425.3
When jury duty would interrupt the children's educational progress, the administrator may discuss with the employee the possibility of seeking an exemption.
3426 Personal Leave
3426.1
Full-time employees may request two days off for personal reasons (including illness of immediate family members) as approved by the administrator.
3426.2
The administrator may take pay from sick leave or deny pay for some period within the requested leave.
3426.3
Approval from the board or its representative is necessary for personal leaves longer than three days.
3427 Professional Growth Leave
3427.1 All full-time certificated employees are eligible for 3 professional growth leave days.
3427.2
Teachers receive pay for attending all approved conferences, seminars, or other classrooms.
3427.3
These paid professional days are not cumulative and must be used only for professional advancement.
3427.4
Any employee may petition the Board or its representative for a unpaid leave not to exceed one year for study or professional improvement.
