4140 First Aid and Emergencies

4141 First Aid Facilities

4141.1
A room shall be available and equipped with first aid supplies.

4141.2
Students are forbidden to use the first aid supplies, but staff may use the supplies to care for cuts and bruises.

4141.3
Injured students shall be placed in a room isolated from others and under the supervision of an administrative staff member.

4142 Minor Accidents

4142.1
In case of accidents, office personnel should be contacted immediately.

4142.2
Office personnel will treat all minor accidents.

4142.3
The teacher on duty or in the classroom must complete an accident report if the accident warrants, and return the report to the office personnel to be kept on file in the office.

4143 Serious Accidents

4143.1
In cases of serious accident, the school office will call to notify the parents and get instructions on actions to be taken for the child.

4143.2
Alternative decisions may be (1) parents come for the child and take him to their medical professional(s), (2) parents instruct the school to call the family medical professional(s) for instructions, and (3) parents request the emergency squad to take the child to the hospital, then call the family medical professional(s).

4143.3
If the parent is unavailable or the accident is severe enough, the school may call the family medical professional(s), emergency squad, or hospital depending on the nature of the situation.

4143.4
The teacher on duty or in the classroom must complete an accident report immediately and give it to the office personnel to be kept on file in the office.*

4143.5
Emergency authorization forms must signed by the parent and on file in the office. These forms indicate names of preferred medical professional(s) and hospitals, special instructions, and authorization for emergency procedures. Copies are sent with any child leaving the school in an emergency squad.

4144 First Aid Training

4144.1
Once every 3 years, full-time teachers attend an inservice program on first aid and emergency procedures, including CPR procedures.
