General Purpose ("Why does this position exist?"):

XCS exists to equip students academically and spiritually to become workers and leaders for Christ’s church.  The teachers for Xenos Christian Schools educate and nurture students, in a safe, loving and Christ-centered environment.  They work alongside the parents to teach Biblical truth and the practical application of that truth to everyday life.

Spiritual Leadership:

The teacher consistently exhibits love, joy, peace and spiritual maturity in their daily work and relationships in the school.Components:

  • The teacher demonstrates Biblical love (sacrificial, disciplining, forgiving and emotional) towards the students.
  • The teacher demonstrates Biblical love (sacrificial, disciplining, forgiving and emotional) towards the parents.
  • The teacher practices healthy conflict resolution.
  • The teacher demonstrates a teachable attitude and pursues ongoing spiritual growth.

 

Planning and Preparation:

The teacher shall design lesson plans and assessments that reflect a deep understanding of the content, an appreciation for the level of instruction that is appropriate for students, and an awareness of available resources. Components:

  • The teacher demonstrates knowledge of content and pedagogy.
  • The teacher demonstrates knowledge of students.
  • The teacher selects clear, appropriate instructional goals grounded in the Course of Study.
  • The teacher demonstrates knowledge of available resources for instruction.
  • The teacher designs coherent learning units, lessons and activities for students using a variety of instructional strategies.

 

Classroom Environment:

The teacher shall establish a comfortable and respectful classroom environment, which cultivates a culture for learning and creates a safe place for risk-taking.   The teacher manages routines and procedures efficiently and sets a tone that is cooperative and non-disruptive.

Components:

  • The teacher creates an environment of respect and rapport.
  • The teacher establishes a culture for learning.
  • The teacher manages classroom procedures, so that instructional time is maximized.
  • The teacher effectively manages student behavior with clear expectations and consequences.
  • The teacher organizes physical classroom space for optimal learning.

 

Classroom Instruction:

The teacher shall engage students in the process and enjoyment of learning through effective instruction.

Components:

  • The teacher communicates clearly and accurately.
  • The teacher uses effective questioning and discussion technique.
  • The teacher engages students in learning.
  • The teacher provides quality and timely feedback to students.
  • The teacher demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness.

 

Professional Responsibilities:

The teacher shall carry out the duties of the teaching profession outside the classroom.

Components:
  • The teacher reflects with discernment on his or her own teaching.
  • The teacher maintains accurate records.
  • The teacher builds positive relationships with parents and maintains good communication with the child's home.
  • The teacher maintains positive relationships with colleagues and contributes to the overall success of the school and the system.
  • The teacher grows and develops professionally.
  • The teacher shows professionalism.

 

 

 

Nature of Supervision Received (check one):

Routine work performed under immediate supervision with detailed instructions.  Activities required minimal decision making.

Primary routine work performed with supervision readily available.  Activities follow established, well-defined procedures, and basic decision are made within the scope of these procedures/guidelines.  Decisions outside the scope of the guidelines are referred to the supervisor.

Work performed independently with supervision available.  Manages and prioritizes own workload; expected to make some non-routine decisions requiring judgment and interpretation.

Under direction as to assignments and general methods of execution, with periodic review of assignments.  Expected to make non-routine decisions requiring analysis and interpretation with limited guidance from supervisor.

Under general direction as to broad assignments.  Determines methods and delivers final results.

Within the broadest scope of the unit's objectives, determines and executes major programs.

 

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Education or other four year college degree
  • Administration, planning & organization skills
  • Familiarity with IBM compatible computers; Microsoft Word, Excel, Netscape or Internet Explorer
  • Teachers are responsible to pursue ongoing training in order to maintain their license
